Decorated By Others.
In this section I include items which were acquired as blanks from the factory and then decorated elsewhere. Almost always these items are in the "Surrey" shape. Because of the Board of Trade restrictions which continued until 1952, there was an incentive to decorate pieces and then sell them on, perhaps to make a profit or for purely artistic reasons. There had also been a tradition of home decorating china, especially in the US. Much of this work is attributed to "The Glasgow Girls" and I have seen a set marked "JMB" comprising a teaset of mixed Royal Crown Derby and Coalport items offered through Glasgow Auctioneers Mc Tears', but further research is required. I include these so that they can be readily distinguished from items produced by the factory. The quality is variable.
